Journey to Africa
Of course, it all starts in Cape Town. “The Mother City” as South Africans call it. A sophisticated, cosmopolitan city set amid staggering natural beauty at the very tip of Africa. It is a city, yes. But one that is intimately connected with nature, shaped by the breathtaking beauty that surrounds it. There are amazing views, history, culture and a thriving gay community.
Cape Town as all the elements of a world class city, including, a trendy art scene along the 19th century waterfront, museums, shopping and nightlife. And for wine connoisseurs – you’re in luck, as fine restaurants are known for their wine selections and we’ll be taking a day trip to the famous wine lands nearby.
After Cape Town, fly directly to Sabi Sand and Lion Sands Game Reserve. You’ve seen the pictures. Cocktails at dusk overlooking the watering hole. The world’s most spectacular setting. The Africa of movies and legends and childhood dreams. Nothing compares to the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. Famous for its lion prides, Sabi Sands is the most richly endowed African game park, filled with impalas, hyenas, leopards, baboons, elephants, herding buffalo, and more who live within Nature’s harsh but balanced laws.
Then skip Dr. Livingstone’s arduous trek across Africa, and fly straight to the mighty waterfall he discovered and named for Queen Victoria. Words cannot prepare you for the thrill of this thundering mile-wide cascade. As a Royal Livingstone Hotel guest, you will have unlimited access to Victoria Falls from a private walkway. Take a scenic flight over the Falls and savor a relaxing sunset cruise along the upper Zambezi, the perfect venue to enjoy “sundowners” and watch elephants and giraffes drink at the edge of this romantic river. Victoria Falls is an adventure lover’s paradise with white water rafting, elephant safaris, bungee jumping, and a variety of excursions available. Experiencing one of the world’s great natural wonders is the perfect conclusion to this once-in-a-lifetime gay journey to Africa. You can extend your trip by experiencing Chobe Game Lodge, the only game reserve located in the Chobe National Park.

Lion Sands has been family owned and managed since 1932. At River Lodge, you need not move far to appreciate extraordinary wildlife, or to marvel at the spectacular riverside view. We have tried to capture the entrancing spirit of the Sabi River, and always smile at that moment when we see our guests forging their own connection with that special energy that cannot be seen, but can definitely be felt. Guests are encouraged to make River Lodge their very own private safari home, ensuring that the time spent on safari remains the highlight of their visit to South Africa. The main lounge, bar, wine cellar and library are decorated in a true African Safari style, with some furnishings huddled around the fire place and the rest making full use of the open sided section, which becomes the extensive viewing deck. Each room is fully air-conditioned with mini bars, personal safes, satellite TV, telephones and DVD players. Staying at Lion Sands gives you the perfect opportunity to spot the Big Five in the Sabi Sand. Lion Sands Sabi Sand is one of the most popular places to go on safari, and with good reason: the rangers, who will join you during your safari adventure, are passionate, well trained and experienced. Due to considerate game viewing practices, the trackers and game rangers of the various Lodges are able to offer exceptional game viewing of all the general game species, as well as the high profile animals. The success of viewing leopards within this area is legendary. Elephants, lion, rhino, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, zebra and a vast variety of antelope and other species can be closely observed within their own ranges.
The Royal Livingstone Hotel is situated on the Zambian banks of the Zambezi River, close to Victoria Falls. Indeed, so close is it that the waterfall’s spray can be viewed right from the hotel verandah, the edge of the falls can be seen from the Sun Deck and there is direct access to the world wonder from the hotel grounds. And don’t be surprised to encounter zebra or impala grazing on the hotel’s manicured lawns – The Royal Livingstone is located in the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park. The hotel’s wide, deep verandahs and colonial décor are reminiscent of more elegant and less hurried time. The excellent service at Royal Livingstone reflects this: staff at The Royal Livingstone have undergone a high level of training to ensure world-class, professional and personalized service during your stay. There are countless activities – from scenic flights to elephant-back safaris – to be enjoyed in the area and the hotel staff will be happy to make recommendations and arrange bookings for you.
